Reporting Content

If someone posts, comments, messages you, asks a question in a session's Q&A or sets up a profile that is abusive, spam or otherwise inappropriate, you can report it to the event organisers from the ema app. The organisers review every report, and you stop seeing what you reported as soon as you send it.

Where to Find It

Where to Find It

Event > Feed, Messages, a session's Q&A or a person's profile

Look for Report in the place where you see the content.

What you want to reportHow
A feed postTap the … button on the post, then Report post.
A comment or replyTap Report under the comment.
A chat messagePress and hold the message, then choose Report message.
A Q&A questionTap Report under the question in the session or talk's Q&A. Anonymous questions can't be reported from the app.
A person's profileOpen their profile and tap Report profile.

You can only report other people's content, never your own.

Sending a Report

  1. Choose the reason that fits best: spam or scam, harassment or bullying, hate speech or symbols, nudity or sexual content, violence or threats, self-harm or suicide, or something else.
  2. Add any details the organisers should know, if you want to. This is optional and can be up to 1,000 characters.
  3. Tap Submit report. You need to be online to send it.
After you report

A confirmation thanks you and the item disappears for you straight away. It stays out of your feed, chat, Q&A list or directory even after the organisers review it. The person you reported is not told who reported them.

If you have already reported the same item, the app tells you so; the organisers already have your report.

What the Organisers Do

The event's organisers see your reason and note in their moderation queue. They can hide the content for everyone, leave it up, or remove the person from the event's community, which stops them posting, chatting, asking questions and sending meeting requests there. When several attendees report the same item, ema hides it for everyone until an organiser has looked at it, except for posts by the event's own staff and sponsored posts, which stay up until an organiser decides.

If someone is in danger

Reporting is reviewed by the event team, not by emergency services. If you or someone else is at risk of harm, contact local emergency services or venue security.
